Hi Brian,
Great response! I agree with everything you said. I always tell my students the best compliment that the school can receive is for them to refer someone.

In a secondary educational setting I feel that it is a group effort to keep enrollment up and strengthen retention. Especially with adult learners; there are many other distractions that can pull a student away from their academics such as family, health, and even being able to solidify a stable long time commitment. So I feel that the key players start at the beginning such as the admissions counselor and finacial aid representatives. They need to "sell" the educational experience to the student. After that the academic advisors need to keep abreast of each students progress and have regular meeting to make sure that their needs are being met through out the program. The teachers and instructors are also part of the retention process. They need to make the learning process enjoyable and fulfilling for the student. The last of the key players are the representatives that assist in job placement or exit interviews. These individuals need to make sure that the students experience has met their incoming expectations. The reason that this is important is that the student can become the best advertising vehicle for the school. Word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising but it can also be one of the most damaging.
Hi Jennifer,
Instructos are key players, but all personnel plays a part.

Hi Allison,
I agree! The instructor definitely sets the tone, either good or bad, hopefully good.

Hi Stacy,
I agree! Retention is everyone's job! We have to make the students want to continue to come back each day.

I feel that the instructors are the key players we are the ones that make the classes interesting and counsel the students on staying in school.
The instructor is very important. If the instructor is interested in the topic, students will pick up on that and become invested.
It definitely takes the effort of everyone at the school to keep students happy and enjoying their education. Good communication regarding specific students across departments is also important (Business office, financial aid, academic, admissions, etc...). The instructors and the program director probably have the most influence and advising opportunities, but all employees play a part in keeping the students happy about their decision to attend college and stay engaged!
Hi Donna,
I concur! Retention is everyone's job! The brunt of retention really falls on the instructor. The instructor has to make the student want to return the next day.

Hello, I also feel that it is the responsibility of all personnel at any institution to help with the retention of students. The instructor has the vital part by using various teaching styles to engage the student motivation.
Hi Richard,
I agree! I have learned over the years that retention involves every personnel at the institution, but the instructor has to do an effective job on making the students want to return the next day. The instructor plays a vital role when it comes to retention.

I believe it starts at the top with the instructors themselves followed by the advising team.
