student body language
as instructors we need to be aware of student body language and how to find students that are not "getting the material" and maybe lost.
Hi Jose,
Sometimes you have to make students uncomfortable. Any time a student refuses to participate dismiss them from the class for that day and deduct points from their participation grade.

How can I overcome a student's body language without making her/him uncomfortable? During a presentation on 'Why should I hire you?', a student didn't want to participate, when her entire class shared their selling points. All of a sudden, near the end of the presentation while discussing ways to help a restaurant be profitable, she jumped in and stated that individual training is the best way, instead of group training sessions. Just there, I realized that she is one of those students that feels comfortable sharing experiences in a one-on-one basis. However, she never scheduled a meeting with me even after various attempts of reaching out to her.
Hi LaTunija,
Body language says a lot. We have an externship orientation class, which we give our students in depth information about verbal and nonverbal communication.

Hello this is a big challenge for me because I tell students when they go on externship they must watch their body language. But I never pay close attention to them as I'm giving them information they need to take with them on externship I just assume they need this information whether they want it or not.
Hi MICHAEL,
I concur! Sometimes you simply have to ask does everyone understand. I know you can still ask this question and you still will not know.

I agree Terry, as Instructors we are always learning students body language. If we can do a better job understanding wether each student is getting it, than we will be a better Instructor.
Hi Terry,
Body language definitely says a lot. You should be able to tell by a student's body language if they are understanding or not.
