adult barriers

I thought this course was very helpful learning about the adult barriers for adult learners, including the situational, dispositional and institutional. I also found the information regarding the customer-oriented instructor guidelines and the customer oriented environment guides to be very useful. This course will be very helpful in my class.

Hi Thomas,
You can only address what you know. When you build a rapport with students they will share things with you.

Situational and personal barriers are very difficult to even know about with individual students. How do we get to the point where we can deal with this if we aren't even aware of students that have these barriers?

Hi Steve,
Awesome! It sounds like you do not have a problem with retention, thus having a very high retention goal. I have always known retention to be a constant battle for most schools.

IN my institution, commitment is not a big problem as most of the students here are wanting for the information that we are giving them.they came here because of their desire to work in their chosen field and are generally excited and commited .

Hi Beatrice,
I have seen both ends of the commitment spectrum. It really depends on the student. Some students are very serious about their education, others are not.

My impression is that adult learners develop academic barriers due to lack of commitment and clear academic goals.
