Students as customers
Students are our customers but are also are product. If we lower our standards our produts suffers then we have no customers left. It is important as instructors we work to raise the students level and encourge them to reach that level and be sucessful.
Hi Elizabeth,
I love your outlook! You are a true educator who really cares about your students education.
Patricia Scales
Agreed! I have found that raising the bar, and then helping my students get there is so rewarding for all parties. They have a greater sense of accomplishment and I as their instructor get great satisfaction out of seeing their confidence and skills grow. I never let my students settle for less than what I know they are capable of. I cheer them on until they have reached their goals.
Hi Dara,
A customer in an academic environment is very similar to a customer in any environment. Bottom line is to be fair to the customer and give them what they are paying for.

I thought it was an interesting perspective of what it means to be a customer in an academic environment versus a business environment. I particularly liked the point about students, through assessments, continually prove that they deserve to remain customers. Ideally, your assessments need to be structured in a way that the customers can meet them if they work at it - they cannot be too easy as then they do not have value. At the same time, if the assessments are too difficult, our customers could lose heart and leave.
Hi Ronnie,
We have to be our students biggest cheerleaders! Cheer them on and be very proud of them!
Patricia Scales
your right John I take pride in the product Im selling to the students I have. I want them to show the same pride when they finish my class.Alot of time I try to pump them up when they expierence success in an obgective I've placed in front of them.
Hi Terry,
Tests are important. Some students can ace a paper test, but can't apply what they have learned. You have to make sure your students are skillful and are able to do applications on the job.
Patricia Scales
With that concept in mind it is very important to stay focused on what the goal for the student is. Taking tests are important and needed but if it is a job such as auto mechanics be sure to really focus on the skills that are needed so they can use them to make a living. Graduating students without the skill sets puts out a bad product and ruins credability.
Hi John,
I love your perspective! You really get from students what you expect. Let's raise the bar high.
