Best Practices
What are some best practices for to do lists and other time management techniques for online faculty?
Hmmmm--well, that depends upon how the year has gone! No guarantees!!
It sounds like you have a great system Kendra. And I like the way you save previous months to check back on your progress. This probably gives you the feeling of accomplishment.
I check my paper calendar every evening. I've written in there anything critical for me to remember to do the following day. It's so imple, and it works for me. I check off what I accomplish, and since the calendar is good for 2 years, I can easily go back and make sure I've done what I'm supposed to.
The beginning of each term, I log a weekly TO DO list on Monday @ 8AM on my Outlook calendar; this list contains all the items that I need to compile for Academics that week. I then print out the list and leave it on my desk on top of my "current paperwork"; when a task is completed I check it off until finally all the work is turned in, the I toss out the paper. I also use the Outlook calendar and log out time to do certain tasks; it prompts me when it is time and if something comes up I just copy it and put it into another spot. Either way, if it was not done, it does not go away.
