To Do Lists
I've definitely learned to make, and re-make, to do lists during this session. In a compressed semester, deadlines come up very quickly, and new demands seem to pop up much more frequently than during a regular 14-week in person class system. My tendency is to miss discussion meetings - which unfortunately meet on different days, at different times, with no reliable pattern - unless I clearly mark them on the calendar and include them on my to-do list.
Denise, I like the idea of locating your calendar in a place where you can't miss it. In fact, many students have reported hanging a calendar or task list on their bathroom mirrors so they simply cannot miss them!

I found having a calendar both in my bathroom and in my kitchen have given me so much more sense of organization and makes it so much easier to remember important dates!
I agree. To-do lists are what get me through the week and keep me organized. I find myself reprioritizing my to-do list even several times a day! I find I don't seem to miss much when I have a list to follow and can cross accomplishments off as I go.
With a semester on fast foward it is a must to have a "to do" list and lesson plan . This can change with each semester as the programs change with the times.
I teach online and on-ground. I keep a list with me at all times, especially since I have different email accounts for each. A list helps me consolidate everything.
I do agree that a list to do list is a must plus also the lesson plan is more important.
I prefer using a dry erase board rather than an electronic calendar, as the visual effectiveness is more important to me, in a visual way. Pierre
That is my problem to , note cards or post it notes being lost. I agree that a calender system would be best. However, although I like the idea Im challenged by trying to find the time each week to sit down and rewrite and reprioritize my list.
Yes, the note card approach can make time management stressful - especially when those cards are easily misplaced. I do recommend getting the calendar system going Steve.
To do lists are very important to stay on track to complete all assignments on time. Students are pleased with the feedback. Administration is pleased that all scheduled dates are completed
I want to note that I've set all my own chats and discussions with students on a very regular schedule, as I know that helps them as much as it helps me. And yes, I'll develop make a better calendar system rather than having notes on notecards that I tend to misplace!
It sounds like you are definitely in need of a calendar system Steve. It is rare to have such unpredictability in your schedule. But having a calendar system for those discussion meetings will absolutely alleviate the stress of having to commit the schedule to memory!
Steve, yes I agree that a to do list is a must with a compressed semester.
