Immediacy
I tend to have to every thing done right now!!!! I will put a do list together and complete the task that is important first, and so on.
That's right Mary. We can chip away at our tasks gradually over the week. No need to set our expectations that it all has to be done at once. That's just overwhelming.
I know what you mean. I too have an immediacy problem. I want everytning done now at school and at home also. This gives me alot of stress. Students also put the pressure on to have tests and homework graded immediately. I learned alot from this part of the module. I realize that I should prioritize better and relax. It doesn't all have to be done today!
I learned something new today as I read about immediacy in this module. I recognized that immediacy is a set-back for me; what I read really made sense. By trying to solve every problem now, I make myself more tired. Instead of picking up each late paper turned in and grading them one-at-a-time, I will probably feel less tired and overwhelmed if I wait a day or two and then grade all of the late papers at once. The same concept may be true for paying my bills at home.
i completely agree with your statement
I agree with you when you state that amoung all of the other things that we have to do as instructors there are piles of other "immediate" things that must be done... Its frustrating!
My problem of immediacy directly ties to the continues requests of my manager. It almost seems that there are two emails a day from this person that dictate how academic chairs should be spending their time, however with all that there is my own job to consider and my students to attend to as they inquire. I feel like I am pulled ten different ways in a day and everything has to be done in time of a long work day.
Yes, the problem of immediacy is tough. Give task prioritization a try just to see what happens.
