WoW!
I'm sorry I am somewhat of a defeatist. It seems almost your doom if you do or you are doom if you don't. I would think that people mature grow into self mgmt of time. I did. I know it's always that exception.
I must confess at one time or another I identify heavily with that state of Immediancy. I hate to put things off, they seem to just pile-up in the aftermath.
Anyhow, I agree the to-do-list is a great time management strategy. One question if you create a list mentally does that lessen the idea of a to-do- list? Ummm, Inquiring minds are wondering.
I can not make a mental list because I am sure to leave something undone. I tend to relate to the immediacy and I get overwhelmed when I get behind
Yes, feeling a sense of accomplishment is an important life category to fulfill Jeffrey.
I beleive it does. i feel that all things worth putting to paper is inportant doing. Although the order may change in importance they still need to get accomplished not only for the sake of our jobs but for personal goals and a sence of accomplishment.
Yes, consistency is key. Work out a system that's right for you and then keep at it. This is the easiest way for you to stay on track.
The danger of creating a mental TO DO list is to rely on the brain to remember, which could cause stress or/and anxiety. I found that whatever is the system used, it is important to keep with it and be consistent to avoid confusion.
Hi Donna,
My issue with that is that my memory is not as great as it used to be (if it was ever that great)and I may leave things off my mental lists.
This is true. Finding a good balance, or middle ground as you say, is the key Cole. Rushing can cause rework in the end.
When you organize yourself you really have to find a middle ground to which you can prioritize the tasks at hand. Not that I am saying to procrastonate the lesser urgent items, but there needs to be a balance. If we are too rushed we can loose focus and end up confusing ourselves and in turn may forgeting something important.
That's a great question Donna. Creating a mental list has its benefits and drawbacks. On one hand, you always have a mental list with you. On the other hand, a mental list requires memory to maintain. Sometimes it's just nice to get things on paper and out of your mind so you can focus on other things.
