Procrastination
To be honest, procrastination has always been a big issue in my life. I can plan way ahead of time to find that he issue or event has arrived and I have not done what I said I would do. I can imagine that we all have experienced procrastination at some point or another. I often ask the question; why do we do this to ourselves? Do we really enjoy all this pressure and stress we put ourselves through? I’m thinking that many of us are thrill seekers; otherwise we would manage our time better.
On a positive note; I always seem to get these done. I’m sure that if we all make better use of our time we would be more productive and improve on the quality of our outcomes in work or play. I am committing myself to becoming a better time manager; do I have anyone willing to take this pledge with me.
I agree. I find that even doing a little at a time will get you through your tasks relatively quickly. Take advantage of any free time you may run into.
A nice thought. There is a penalty for procrastination. I'd like to think that I am using structuired procrastination since something has to give in the to-do list. But frequently, the penalty for procrastinated important and urgent tasks is less quality...and less satisfaction in the long run. With experience, I manage to manage time better.
There are some people who are quite good at getting tasks knocked out quickly, once they get going. It sounds like you are one of those Juan. Procrastination is something we all struggle with. At least you are able to complete tasks well and quickly once you get started.
I know that I'm a procrastinator and will admit to it....however once I'm on task I will always work to the best of my ability to do things well.
Sometimes, I believe that we have a knack for being able to accomplish much with little time. Okay, so I don't always procrastinte but I do enjoy it.
As I grew older, I have forced myself to not procrastinate because of the stress I was causing myself. Recently, I read that procrastination is now considered a form of self-abuse, which certainly seems accurate to me.
I do like your quote Henry! Yes, many people do procrastinate though. Thanks for the link too.
Sometimes our roles force us to always keep moving. We feel like we'll be under water if we don't continuously process tasks. In these situations, task prioritization becomes key.
I'm under such a work load I can't afford to procrastinate. I try to systematically approach all issues I need to deal with as soon as possible to free myself up for other business.
I can completely relate with your tendency to procrastinate. Consider this though: I've read that 92% of people procrastinate, but then again 80% of all statistics are made up. :)
I must say that as a result of my tendency to procrastinate that I have become better at doing things more efficiently. I know that when I'm under time constraints I don't have time to piddle around and so I get my work done more efficiently. Still, sometimes the stress I put myself under isn't necessarily worth the improvement in my efficiency.
Structured procrastination takes a unique approach to resolving your tendency to procrastinate. It's simple: Put something you absolutely hate doing at the top of your list so you will inevitably procrastinate doing it and in effect do everything else required of you in an effort to avoid what's at the top of your list. See the link below for more information. It's a good read:

I try to take everything in stride not to overwhelm myself or the situation. It's all about time management and dealing with important task.
Sure, I will take the pledge with you Julynn. Personally, I am more into immediacy but then I would say I work to hard and I need a break. That break then turns into procrastination. I find it hard to have a middle ground.
