Time Management
What time management techniques do you use for time management?
Interesting points Tamara. I might propose that a phone that is smarter than you could make you look smarter. So it very well could be a good investment.
I have been "procrasinating" getting a smart phone. I don't want to get a phone that is smarter than I am. I have been contimplating getting an Ipod touch for all the same reasons. I believe that it will help me to keep in touch and to stay on top of everything when I am away from work.
That's a great approach Jeffrey. I use it too. I like to add buffers to my schedule as well to give myself a little wiggle room.
I like to set definitive time allotments for portions of my work day.
I recently purchased a smart phone and it has been a tremendous help in time management. I can organize tasks, view my calendar and even finish tasks all on the phone. I used to struggle with spending to much time on one task. Now I set my phone to buzz when I want to move on to the next task, this helps to keep my pace. It is amazing how much technology can assist:)
Thanks for sharing Kelli! Yes, many instructors transition from brick and mortar to online teaching and experience the same kinds of challenges. I like the schedule approach.
I have the pleasure of working full-time from home. When I first began my quest in working from home, I found myself more stressed then when I worked in Corporate America. I was all over the place and procrastination became my first name :)
It didn't take long to realize I needed a plan. I quickly started a strict schedule and to-do lists. Then I physically made myself stick to the schedule and lists.
Now, after 3 years, I have it down pat. In the summer months I have all of my work completed by noon, so that I have the afternoon's for my children. In the Fall, Winter, Spring, I have my work completed by 2p so that I can spend quality time with my children (school work, extra curricular, etc.)
The key is to set a schedule and stick with it. It's hard in the beginning, but eventually becomes second nature.
My Best,
Kelli
