taking the course on personal time
Statement: Taking this course on my personal time has come to be a stressor. Time at work has not been really allotted for example we are to take the course within this week not four weeks as recommended so we can apply some of the data were learning. Making a list is just to fullfill a meeting requirement. I do all the things mentioned in this course already but it wasn't necessary for me to do but required.
Thanks for sharing Alisa! Sounds like you really have come to know yourself and what works for you. Excellent to hear!
I look at it as one of many things that I do throughout the year on my own time to keep my professional credentials current. Just like anything else, time for these activities needs to be budgeted and planned for on the schedule. As for the recommended 4 weeks, honestly I think that is breaking it into such small segments that one would only need to be in this classroom 10-15 minutes per week, if they read fast, longer if they take more time, but still less than an hour per week. As far as an hour a week, to me, I would just break it down further to manage if it was really stressing me to use personal time. For instance, wake up, brush teeth, read a few pages of lecture material. Done before you even know it! In any event, a quick refresher, even on things we do anyway is always good. You never know when you might learn something from a colleague in these discussions and make yourself better.
Thanks Robert! I'm glad you find this program to be so organized. We tried to lead by example!
In my case,we are not allowed to take the course unless "on the clock".This has raised stress for all our instructors by loading planning time as well as computer acess. In effect it has increased our skills in prioritizing and time allotment significantly.
Time is an importance aspect of life. Reviewing and re-examining time management is a great refresher. The program is well designed and organized. Learning to manage time can reduce the stress of daily life.
The continued learning modules seem unimportant and a waist of time. Real education is in the workforce and continued education on a masters level or higher. I have to be hones,t with everything going on, this is just another annoying task I have to add to my list. These learning modules are another way to get money from colleges. How can there be a realistic way of instructors to continue learning?
While taking a course on your own time is a stressor, it also is required to be done. In my full-time position in the cardiovascular lab and electrophysiology lab we indeed spend a great amount of time learning "off the clock". I t is a neccessary part of life since it may be the only way to stay complete on top of what is going on in your work life.
