This was was great lesson. I would like to share some strategies I am using to manage my time. On my iphone, I am using the app todo which syncs with my MacBook. I made different folders for all the aspects of my life so I can mange what I am doing, and see it in multiple places.
I used to keep a written log of things I needed to complete but this stopped making sense after I kept losing the list.
That sounds like a reasonable goal. New teaching innovations also would have to vary depending on whether the instructor taught in the classroom setting or online learning.
Yes, it's really important for instructors to stay on top of the latest teaching technologies and innovations Donald. For some instructors, this is tough because time is limited. I recommend getting into one new technology or teaching innovation per semester. It may not seem like a lot but it can really add up in the end.
It is important for instructors to stay current with modern equipment technology so that material will be delivered in the same manner as competitive schools in the local area. This would keep all schools current in technology and students would feel worthy of being in the classroom.
Excellent! So happy to hear it Harris. Would love to know more about which ones are working for you and other instructors.
I took advantage of some of the websites list in the lesson and I already see the difference
Hi Larry,
Good point about limiting the list. If we don't then the value of the list is lost because it overwhelms us.
Gary
I will cross off and then update it weekly. I limit it putting too much on will only overwhelm me and I only am working so many hours a day and mostly in the classroom.
Rebecca,I like the page-a-day style calendar to keep lists. With very long-term projects, however, I try to note ahead once weekly so that these to-dos that are far off don't get forgotten and suddenly become urgent tasks.

Glad to hear it Kodee! Yes, to do lists keep me on track as well. When I don't have them to ground me, I often work on the wrong kinds of things.
Keeping a to do list really has helped me since I learned this technique many years ago.

To do lists keep me on track. There are so many things i would rather be doing than whats on my stupid ol to do list, but thats how things get done. Otherwise I would be all over the place.
Great way to manage time. My problem is I am old school. I still carry a daytimer. This has all of my to do lists as well as all of my important things I need to know. I find if I write I retain better. The younger generation scoffs at this, but it works for me!
I have also tried the electronic approach & have failed. Perhaps not growing up with this technology has left some deep seeded mental aversion to the process. As you, so do I make written list, accomplish what I can reprioritizing for time allows constraints & simply move the left over to the following day. It works well & issues are handled.
I will make a to do list for home sticky note it on my steering wheel. I will make a work list and put it next to my keyboard. I will cross off and then update it weekly. I limit it putting too much on will only overwhelm me and I only am working so many hours a day and mostly in the classroom.
The to do list has helped me prioritize my tasks. Even though it seems they keep piling on task on us and then asking for more the to do list is there to help.
I do the same. As an instructor of several different dental classes, I find it important to keep a small tablet of the things I need to accomplish. The list could be of grading of exams, printing handouts, or research for the next days topic.
Interesting approach to categorization Janet. This way, instead of running back and forth from A to B, you can just focus on tasks from each location, knock them out and move on!
It definitely works for me. Just find a quiet location so you can think clearly & calmly & I group according to what is top priority to lowest. I also categorize by location so I'm not running from place to place & wasting time not accomplishing what I need to.
