To DO List
To Do List are a must if you have many hats to wear. Each day the list may change just as life changes. But, what a wonderful feeling to get to check things off!
I completely agree on this. I keep two "to do lists" with me at all times. One is for daily/weekly items and then I have a long term "to do" list. I update the daily/weekly list once a week and the long term list every other month. It is a wonderful thing to have and it helps immensly. And yes I agree with Joan it gives great pleasure to cross things off the list when they are completed!
I have found keeping a to do list on a white board in my office keeps it front and center. This aids in focusing on the tasks. Additionally, it allows me to reprioritize the list -- and list in order -- quite easily. The best part is the satisfaction of wiping the board clean of tasks as they are completed!
I like your point about seeing things clearly Rosalie. When we put together a to do list, we get all of our tasks out of our minds and on paper. This helps us understand the full landscape of our responsibilities.
And a wonderful feeling it IS to have the task completed. To do list allow me see clearly and to feel in control of my duties. They also help to remind me what needs to be done, as there is a good chance I may leave something out that needed to be done during a busy week.
Excellent! Sounds like a plan Scott. I can definitely sympathize with instructors who feel like they're flying by the seats of their pants! It's hard to keep a running list when you're always going. I might start with a high level list making activity and the add details as your schedule permits!
I have been one that because of my busy schedule feel like I amn always flying by the seat of my pants. I teach 8 classes in a F to F setting and one online. I have been keeping my "to do list" in my head. I am going to start doing the list and I am positive it will give me more of a personal feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.
I like your thinking Cornelius and it's true. We've got to prioritize as all tasks can't happen at once. Sometimes our attempt to multitask can cause our work quality to suffer.
TO DO lists are important. The list should prioritize tasks from most important to least important. Most people do not prioritize tasks and often fall behind on the more important tasks because of lack of prioritizing. We must remember that everything on our list is important but not everything has to be done immediately.
I like to do lists they keep me focused and organized with 2jobs and many home committments I could not manage my stress and needs with out them.
I use this tool daily to help me stay on task so that I don't get lost in my other projects.
Good points Jennifer! Sometimes when we change jobs or get a promotion, our methods for organizing ourselves have to change too. Sounds like you did the right thing by taking action.
When I started my job as a Dean I never really utalized check lists BUT now it is a must. I think the best part of using a check list is getting into a daily routine and receiving the feeling of checking things off.
So glad to know you see how helpful to do lists can be Bernell. Now it's time to give them a try and see how much you can benefit in practice.
Hi Gary and Joan,
I use lists *all* the time!! Otherwise I could not manage my time efficiently. It makes me feel organized and relaxed as well with what tasks I have set ahead for the future, and most importantly to do it 100% well.

After completing the module I realized how important something as easy as a TO DO LIST help
me to get things done . and most of all I did not
forget any thing because I work from the list.
I totally agree with the "To Do" philosophy.
I accomplish so much more in a day when I have a list of items that I need to get done. It is such a feeling of tremendous accomplishment when you are able to check things off. I make lists for everything at work and at home.
To Do List are a great way of setting short term goals that are atainable.
i agree really has made my job easier
Hi Joan,
Right you are. I use lists just so I know what to do next and to make sure I follow up with what I have committed to. The list helps me feel much more relaxed about knowing I am going to accomplish that day's requirements.
