Write Down Goals

It is best to write down goals, but I hear people who state that they don't have time to write down those goals. What can I tell them?

a life without goals is a life without purpose. if you don't have time to write down goals mark time out on your "to do" list. No excuses. Reading biographies of successful people made me realize on thing....they all had several goals in life. Just look at Lou Holtz.

So true about the day not going as planned Brian. In life, there are always surprises. Some are pleasant. Others are undesirable and unplanned. To do lists work well at helping us keep an inventory of everything on our plates. Also, building a little bit of a buffer into our schedules - where possible - can make a big different.

I make a to do list daily taking what did not get done from the day before and put it at the top. It the best way for me to remember not to forget the things that need done. The day never seems to go as planed so the list helps.

I believe it is a good idea to write down goals. If we develop a habit of writing down goals and reviewing the list frequently we have taken a step towards the attainment of our goals. It is also important to prioritize. When we write down, prioritize and review, we can then use our time efficiently to accomplish our goals.

Indeed true Kathy. When our goals are written down, we are often much more likely to drive toward them. There's something about having goal on paper that motivates us to check things off the list.

Very important to write down goals. Although goals can be short term or long term, it gives the person a chance to see what is attainable while working towards achievement.

I have found that if I don't write things down then I forget to do things. You get pulled in so many different directions each day, and to try and remember it all at the end of the day is too difficult.

I have to write myself a to do list in order to get all of my work done. I am sad to say, but I wrote one before starting this class! When people say they do not have time to write down there goals I point out that neither do I. I make time. As I am grading a paper I will sometimes write down a note, or I will write my list while I eat.

Writing down goals for the week are definitely a must. Following through and reassessing them and re-prioritizing is just as important.

Goals are important to document so you have a path to follow as well as seeing your accomplishments. I have students on the first day of class write down 3 things they wish to accomplish by the end of their 6 week semester, i take those papers, place them in envelops with their names on it, and on the last day of class i hand them back and they usually are proud to see that they did achieve their goals.

Writting down goals are important so you can look back at them ann measure where you are and where you need to be.

That sounds tough Gilbert. Consistency is often the key to good time management. If you can, try to find ways of being a little more consistent with your goal writing and experience the benefits.

Excellent to hear Joannie! So glad to know you are using a method that works well for you. Keep it up!

Great point, yes you need to write things down or they might not get completed in time. I find myself writing down goals or tasks in an inconsisitant pattern. Usually only one day a week this leads to days in which I think those goals or tasks are in my head however distractions usually take me away from what things need to be completed first.

Writing down goals/"To Do" lists helps to ensure that the tasks are complete without forgetting something of importance. If a person writes it down, oftentimes they don't forget it and if so, the paper is there as a reminder.
I have to use this method when my week is really busy because something can be forgotten, which can result in a costly error.

It's great to set expectations like that Sam. Employees and coworkers alike need to understand that you need a few minutes to get settled before the requests come in. When they give you this time, you can give them so much more.

I need to take the time to write down a to do list, otherwise I never get to what is really important. Often I am presented with two or three situations before I even hit my desk. I have tried to train my coworkers and students that I need a few minutes in the morning to set up the order in which these things will be addressed. So far it seems to work pretty well, but I need to make sure that I get back to those items.

Excellent to hear Jeannie! Getting your students into the good habit of writing down goals is an excellent choice. It gives them a life skill that they can use now and after they graduate.

I agree i have my students write down goals weekly.
