To-Do Lists and Goals
To do lists can be helpful, but only if the author actually gives that list the attention it deserves. I think that the list should include items that can be easily conquered, thereby adding to the notion that the chores can be wittled down and the larger tasks can be helped along by victory over others.
Lisa, So true! Creating smaller milestones by breaking up tasks can make for a rewarding experience. Sometimes, large tasks are just too daunting to even start. Mentally, this is a great way to overcome them.

I strongly agree that these lists are very important to not just keeping me orgaized but getting the thoughts on paper (visual) and then being able to clearly see the priority. It also allows me the comfort of knowing that I will not forget anything because it is written down. I am then more able to focus on the task I need to accomplish. Breaking the larger tasks down is also like a mental game to getting through the work and avoiding procrastination. Sometimes you need a little incentive- when I finish this section I will go get a cup of coffee or take a short walk....
I like to utilize "to-do" lists because I feel a sense of accomplishment myself. More often than not, we are concerned about what our students accomplish and we lose sight of our own accomplishments. They're all important!
I love "To Do Lists" it is such a sense of accomplishment when you can mark something off of you list. I make sure that when I am creating a list I have several tasks that I can complete in a short timeframe and this always make me feel like I have done some constructive things for the day.
Rachell, Thanks for sharing. Once we get into the habit of using do to lists, it's often hard to live without them.

Creating a to do list is the only way I can make deadlines and keep organization within my life. I do a to do list daily.
To-Do Lists and Goals help me to organize my classes, I have a list for each week
Charles, So true. That's the tough part for some instructors. It's not enough to just make lists. We've got to actively look at them and utilize them too. Otherwise, they aren't worth much to us.

Michael, So true. Even the best do to list must allow for flexibility. It's critical to always give yourself the right to change direction for optimal performance.

I believe to do lists are only effective if you
follow them. things can change at
moments notice. so you have to be able to adapt as well.
I agree that To-Do list are very helpful in getting things accomplished in an orderly manner. It is also a way for me to sort my thoughts and prioritize my day.
Peggy, Yes, breaking big tasks into smaller ones in a great way to chip away at everything gradually. Sometimes large tasks can be too daunting to accomplish and we have to make them more manageable.

I think that you can set up bigger goals for your to do list but I tend to break those down into smaller goals. I will more likely accomplish the smaller task and then the bigger task doesn't seem so big. If a task stays on my to do list for a while I evaluate that task again to see if it is important enough to stay on the list.
