Never enough time

I recognize with the feeling of not having enough time to get all my tasks complete in the time frame that I am given or that I have set for myself. I tend to take on more than I can handle but only trying to please others. I need to take control of my tasks just day to day and set priority to those tasks so that I dont get overwhelmed with trying to figure out where to start. Looking unorganized does not look good to the students.

Regina, Yes we do. When we stay on top of our tasks and prepare for each lecture, we are much better able to assist our students with their learning needs. We are better instructors, and are in a better position, when we are organized.

I also know the feeling of not having enough time to complete a task, but I can say that the task list does work! I complete one weekly and since I've started I don't feel this way quite as much. It's not a good feeling going into the classroom unorganized and it is especially not a good feeling when the students express this too each other regarding their instructors. I feel we owe it to ourselves and our students to be prepared.

I know that overwhelming feeling too well. I have always been a pretty organized person and someone who "loves" control... Well, since I am an instructor I always feel I don not have: a. enough time to prepare for class, correct projects, homework, quizzes, exams... etc. I end up taking a lot of work home on the evenings and weekends and try to get work done when my two babies are asleep. I will try to prioritize more, and if the students have to wait two weeks until I return a quiz than that is what it is. Even though than things pile up, which I hate! Oh well...

I'm with you, Jenny, about sometimes taking on too many tasks with the hopes of looking good to my bosses. I've learned that taking on too much is never a good thing and none of the tasks ever get the attention they really need!!

When I start to feel that there not enough time to do the things that need to be done I take a minute to breath, then I look at all that needs to be done and decide if it all has to be done by me, if not then I get help with the things that someone can help me with, then I decide from what is left what's the most important and I get it done, the rest just has to wait unitl I get to it, but by not procrastinating it allows me time to get all things done in a timely matter.

Rhonda, So true. An organized approach keeps our efforts streamlined and keeps us on top of things. When we are disorganized, we can really fall apart - especially as the rate of tasks that come into our queue increases.

I also feel that there is never enough time in the day to complete everything. Trying to please others is stressful, do what you can and let the rest wait until you have time according to the priority of the task. When you are unorganized it also makes more work for you and it slows down your progress.

Very good point, Jenny. I can empathize with your dilemma of not having enough time. I'm sure many teachers can relate. I try to remain calm and focused and not get too frazzled when things get overwhelming. Take a little time to compose yourself before class or meetings. Make sure to take care of yourself both physically and psychologically.

I feel you! I never reserve enough time for my self. I am also working on mu time management, you are correct that we need to be organized and put together to be able to set an example for out students.

i too feel that there are never enough hours in the day but i do whatever it takes not to let that spill over into the classroom appearing prepared is key to having the students respect and confidence in my abilities-

Jenny, That is indeed true. When we are organized, we give others a sense of confidence in our work. When we are disorganized, our students, faculty and administrations can often see right through it.
