to do list
Sometimes, getting the less priority tasks done on to do list although it is not recommended, but helps to collect energy for focused toward the more important tasks.
The intrinsic value of a well proritized to do list is clear. However, as a practical matter, some level of flexibility must always be available. For example, setting up a laboratory demonstration may be a #1 priority for today but its importance will quickly diminish when a hysterical student presents with a serious life issue.
Have to start writing my "to do" list instead of keeping it in my memory bank. Thank you.
I agree, sometime this give you a push to do more.
I noticed this with "flying" to do list.
I really like the idea of looking at the list from a consequence point of view and listing the importance from the other side
I find when I complete many smaller tasks, the bigger items on the "to do" list seem easier to handle. This clears my workspace so I can focus on the higher priority items.
i like that consept this totally makes sence i have always been one to do the bigger, more important stuff 1st then it seems like i never have time to do the little ones.
I like your suggestion and it makes sense. Sometimes finding movtivation is the hard part.
i compleatly agree, sometimes i am unable to focus on a larger task because i worry when i will have the time to compleate the smaller ones. so quite often i will try and finish all of my "smaller" or "quick" taskes so that i can better focus on the larger goal.
Personally, I have been prioritizing my tasks by the amount of time they take for as long as I can remember. While I was reading the lesson it struck me that I really do all the easy and fun things first then force myself to do the things I really don't want to do. I often feel like I need more time to do things so I am going to make a conscious effort to do the longer more difficult tasks first and see if it makes a difference in my available time.
April, Good point. These lists do require a little up front time investment, but should not take us a significant amount of time to maintain. Otherwise they are not worth our time.

I think there are pros and cons to a to do list. Having things listed out is good but some people spend more time with their to do list then doing the actual tasks they need to get done.
Neda, So true. Low priority tasks are often easy to complete. They can serve as great confidence builders that help us build the motivation to complete more complex tasks.

Katrina, So true! Making the list is truly half the battle. Often times, that's all instructors have time to do. We've got to follow through and actually use lists to experience the full benefits! When we do, we often find we have more time on our hands to invest in other tools such as these.

To do list are a great when you adhere to them. You must be cautious about making list and not using them or creating list and not revamping them so that they are effective.
Agreed, having to many pending tasks in mind just makes you slow and unable to focus on the most important ones, getting litte tasks out of the way can clear your mind so you can focus on the important things.
I say do the smaller, easier tasks out of the way leaving more time for the more difficult items.
You'll get more done faster
