Time Management

To manage your time is an important part of your job a an instructor

Time management is a very important part of being an instructor. First of all we ask and expect our students to manage their time effectively so we must do the same. I really learned a lot from this portion about realizing that no one but me can control my time and that it is up to me how I spend my time. Many times I catch myself saying I have no time because some is always using it all up and I just realized this is not true unless I let it be true. So I am going to start taking more control over my time and I really think it will help me with my stress and will really help me to stay more on track.

I agree that time management is especially important for teachers and also in the medical field. We are bombarded with many different situations every day and need to prioritize to complete the most important tasks first (like triage in the ER). Even though many do this with lists effectively, I am not a list writer. I get more overwhelmed looking at lists because they are never-ending.
I make mental notes (even if it takes more mental energy) or use cell phone reminders. It is a sad time for corporate America, including career schools...with layoffs, there is more work to be completed by less people!

William, So true! Often times when we teach at a distance, we work in our home offices. In these scenarios, our home and work lists often blend. This can be overwhelming so it's especially important to stay organized and on top of things.
