Stress

Stress is the number one factor that needs to be managed and overcome

Sonny, Great point. It's not the stress we are dealt with in life but often how we choose to manage through it. Some of us have better approaches than others!

Dr. Melissa Read

So true. I would like to add however that the person who manages/view(s) the stress has a big factor as well. For example, zit on your nose, some people make a huge deal out of it, certain people, who cares attitude. It all depends on the individual attitudes.

I find that my stressors come from individuals, not so much from my tasks that I need to complete whether timed or not.

Maurice, That sounds like a healthy approach. It's great to know you have both a physical and mental coping mechanism to rely on when times get tough.

How i come to deal with my stress is by working out four times a week and not letting the small things become big things.

Davina, What a great approach. Yes, perhaps the best question is whether or not the tasks we have at hand will matter 5 years from now. That really puts things into perspective!

Dr. Melissa Read

G, Yes, it can be particularly challenging when we have multiple task demands that all seem to take priority. Often times, it's hard to know just which task to focus on first. Sometimes it can be helpful to ask ourselves one question. For each of our tasks, if they did not get done, what would happen? Often times, the answer to this question gives us the clarity we need to make the best choices.

Dr. Melissa Read

It is very true that when you encounter multiple tasks that all seem to be urgent, it can be very overwhelming. I have experienced this. A good way that to alleviate some of the stress that this causes for me is to consider whether or not it would be something that would be important a month from now or a year from now. This helps to put things into perspective.

It seems overwhelming sometimes; when there are multiple events going on at the same time. Each seemingly needing immediate attention. Some of the information about priority will hopefully relieve some of the stress.

each person has to figure out what works best for them

Daria, So true. And how we choose to manage and overcome stress can make all the difference.

Dr. Melissa Read
