Obstacle of Immediacy
After reading through the module I came to a realisation - that this Obstacle really affects how I tend to view certain students and colleagues. I tend to be a person who wants the reply right now, and always works on completing a task as soon as possible. The opposite of procrastination.
However this can and has jaded my opinion on some others who tend to take time in the responses, having mistakenly believed they were procrastinating, but in truth were only pacing themselves. Perhaps a hold-over from OCD?
Is there any others who feel the same and how did you overcome it. The scheduled tasks list seems to be a good idea - but when cursed with immediacy (or perhaps impatience!) it can be difficult.
You can add breaks into the priority list. So they become a healthy task you can complete.
I'm guilty...I've given things to students and I truly felt like this when i've assigned things to students and they didn't make my work priority. Apparently they have a prioritization strategy as well. I will definitely consider this in the future.
I too realized I do this alot. It is a good to be aware to start working on it.
Brandon, Discovering you have a problem is the first step toward doing something about it. So, I'm glad to hear you made this progress. Yes, task prioritization could work, to your point. Another idea would be to take more frequent breaks or longer breaks to rest if you can.

after this module I have realized I have a problem with Immediacy and I didnt even know it was a problem. I am going to try the prioritizing strategy and see how it works.
Vicki, Keeping a mental list can be tough. As the list grows, we have more and more on our minds. That makes accomplishing things in the moment more complicated. I do recommend starting to write things down on paper to clear your mind, just to see how it feels.

I agree with this statement and can certainly relate! I think the fact that we are problem solvers plays a role in this problem with immediacy. We want that solution now. It is an ongoing process and this module definitely helped me to realize that, although I have been working on it, I can improve. A scheduled task list is a good idea. My task list has been a mental one for so long that writing it down will help to lessen stress and improve time management.
