Large office
I have found that being in a large office with much coming and going of students and other instructor very difficult. I'm taking all my grading home. My family does not understand why this has to be. Any good thought on another way?
Good suggestion. You never know what management might be able to do to make your work life a little easier. If you have a need that you think they might be able to fulfill, always ask.
I would request from management that an office space be developed where you can effectivly do your job without disruption.
Beth, try to explain to your family that even though it appears to be harder to bring work home, that your management system actually reduces stress by making you more effective.
Depending on what kind of material you are grading I sometimes wear headphones and play soft classical or jazz music. The other thought might be to lock yourself in an empty classroom; leave a note on your desk saying that you'll return in a half hour. You could also leave a notepad and students could write a noteto you.
This is a common challenge Beth. I know some faculty to who go to the library or coffee shop when they are trying to get work done without interruption by family or students.
