Grading DB Assignments
When I grade DB tasks I read the DB comments as they appear each day and make notations about them in a grade book. When it comes time to assign a final grade on the assignment I don't always have to go back and re-read everything the student wrote.
When I participate in the DBs I make notes to those that I read and don't need to write anything to and encourage to expand on their post. This saves me time at the end when I know who I have read and who I have not when it comes to grading. However, when it comes to counting how many posts they have, this does not help at all.
It does save time for me when it comes to having to respond to them, but not necessarily when grading.
Hi Debbie!
I am only required to read the DB when grading as well. Grading rubrics really help to streamline the grading process and make it more efficient. My students are also given the grading rubric beforehand so that they will know exactly how their grade will be derived. It has worked well for me for the past several years.

I am only required to read the discussion boards when I grade assignments. I have a rubric that I use when grading these assignments so I know exactly what I am looking for.
I really like the idea mentioned in the reading how you can request students to underline or highlight the major words or concepts.
I see the points that you are making regarding trying to do all discussion board grades in one sitting. That is what I do when I assess a grade for each discussion board. However, I am required to post daily to the discussion board, so I DO read it every day. Thanks! Rebekah Garrett
looking back at the module wouldnt this be less productive?
I find that I can be more efficient at grading when I do it all in one setting. Also I find I have more consistency in comments and grading when I do them all at once.
have you ever compared the time doing it as they come in and all at once ?if so what did you find?
David,
How does this save you time?
Doesn't it seem like that is a lot of time spent each day when in reality when you are grading the work you could just view all the responses by the student and do it all at once?
Can you further explain this?
I am curious if the time daily outweighs just doing it once.
