testing
I find assessing students using multiple choice and true/false is time consuming to set up but is more time efficient to grade and there is only one answer.
having students grade each others papers can be a good exercise in time saving but also enables students the chance to review and get clarification on topics they were uncertain on
I've found that short answer questions are good in most cases but it seems like it depends on the subject and the questions.
About having other students mark students' tests:
If they make a mistake in the grading, - then I,
as teacher, am responsible for the mistake.
That's too risky for me.
I agree that multiple choice and treue/false are the easiest for students to answer. I find that students sometimes have difficulty with matching so to challenge their minds with multiple choice or true/ flase, I will make the questions more thought provoking.
I do not like testing using multipe choice or true/false. I think that students retain more knowledge when they have to recall the information, not just pick it out of a group of answers.
multiple choice and true/ false questions are the quickest and easiest to grade, but are also the easiest for the student to answer. These are the lowest levels of learning type questions, try incorperating some matching questions or questions that require the student to put the proper steps in order. These types of questions are easy to grade, but require the students to better comprehend information.
FYI, having other students grade other students test is a violation of FERA, which could find yourself in trouble.
Kevin, sometimes the grading methods with the biggest time investment end up having the greatest payoff. Setting up true/false takes time but I'm glad you hear you benefit in the end.
