reducing stress for the instructor

Some of the ways that i found very helpful to reduce stress are eating healthy and exercise. I always try to eat a well balanced meal with several fruits and vegetables. I also go the gym several times a week which is a great stress reducer. Both of these techniques seem to make it a little easier to get through the day.

DeShaun, All great points! It sounds like you have learned a lot about what works best for others and what works best for you. Yes, exercise, healthy eating and drinking plenty of water all make a difference. Focusing on your needs and preemptively solving problems is a great way to go too.

I agree 100%. Excercise, eating right and drinking lots of water is essential to feeling good and stress reduction. Being prepared and organized is also a big stress reducer(Little Known Fact). Don't work on your lunch break. Go to another place mentally during lunch, wether it is outside watching cars drive down the street or reading a magazine.

I agree, You have to have the peace to free your mind, it helps with headaches as well.

Faculty get free massages on my campus! Yay!

another stress-buster that helps me: 15 minutes before teaching I stop working/reviewing/copying. I do whatever I want even if it's surfing the web. I feel refreshed when I begin my lecture.

Remove clutter and streamline your approach in a structured way.

As a massage therapist and esthetician, I find that the best ways to relax besides eating healthier and sleeping properly is to do holistic treatments. For example, you can get a massage, enroll in a yoga class or practice meditation. Also, in an already stressed workload, sometimes taking an inexpensive head and neck massage class with your significant other and then providing massage for each other when you are stressed cuts out the cost and hassle of scheduling a professional massage (although these are always better) and allows for quality time together

Yes, there are many sources of stress in our environment Hugo. One is definitely the economy. Worries about our financial status and taking on additional work to stay ahead can impact our prep time.

The way economy any prorper prep for the students is just sipmly no enough time.

I find that reducing stress in the classroom, is to effective plan my weeks out, day by day. This reduces the time that is needed to run around, finding things to instructor

Hi David,
We need to make sure we take care of ourselves or we won't be able to take care of others. Exercise is a part of the plan for making that happen.
Gary

i aree when i exercise i fill a lot better

Hi Steven,

I also agree with you 100%. As an instructor, it is very hard to concentrate on the material that the students may be writing or explaining about if you are not feeling healthy or focused.

A couple of the ways that I try to keep my mind and body focused is by eating a healthy breakfast, taking my daily vitamins, and exercising. Some of my other hobbies that I do are complete crossword and word search puzzles to keep my mind focused. These are all great techniques to keep my mind and body motivated. Not only do these techniques help keep me focused but they are also great stress reducers. I feel that I have more energy and I can focus in the areas that are necessary for the students.

Thank you for sharing!

Hi Mary,
I think this is an important part of reducing stress and centering your thinking process as you get ready for the next phase of the class.
Gary

I have found that taking my breaks out of doors when the students go on break is a time to unwind, relax and regroup.

Hi Steven,
Good way to achieve balance in our lives while helping to expand our ability to function. If we don't take care of ourselves we aren't going to be effective with others.
Gary

When I wish to reduce stress, I often cut off the lights and close my eyes. Then I listen to classical music and just relax.
