I use the school's electronic grade book that is on our jump drives, it completes all of the math on attendance, homework, quizzes and test and gives an overall score. Being on the jump drive it goes with me at school and at home.
I totally agree with grading quizzes or exams as soon as possible because the students wants to know where they stand as far a pass or failure with a class at that certain point.
I grade as soon as I can because the students are always anxious to get results. i can be interrupted, but I usually pause then and resume when things are less hectic. This way I feel like i am completing the grading and still attending to the needs of students.
I agree, adapting to your environment is very important and distractions can effect your grading accuracy. I have found that giving specific assignments that will require only one or two pssible correct answers can help your grading accuracy even with small distractions around you. Either it is right or it is wrong with no medium.
I agree. There are always distractions but it is important to know what distractions you may or may not be dealing with so you know how to best handle them.
I don't know if there is any way to truly have "no distractions." No space is without distractions, especially in shared offices such as many of us have (in my case, a loft of cubicles). The important thing to do is survey the area for likely distractions and find means of adapting to them. This is so whether the distractions are mechanical, human, or purely environmental.
