orgnizing your office space
The school I teach we have around 10 instructors in on big room, some of them will continue to pile old exams, handouts, coffee cups and all kind of other things. Which invites reddens in the room and food smell. What can you do about these teachers, tried many times to talk to them no results. What to do.
I don't have much of a problem with unorganized office space. I feel most comfortable with my materials with me at all times. This is becoming a problem in my car. I have got to come up with a system.
Ann, Cleaning out a junk room can be daunting. At the same time, it feels great when we dig ourselves out! Laptops can accumulate junk too, so daily or weekly organization is key.

Well, I have my work cut out to clean up my "junk" room! It is less of an issue with my new laptop!
Ann, That's tough. Some instructors do not have an office space option at their school. They typically have to find other spaces that work. Examples include a home office or even the trunk of their car. Sometimes we have to find ways of making things work in challenging environments.

What if there is NO office space you can truly call your own? I teach part time, so I have to set up space at home. How do I lobby for space at school when I know that is not an option?
shobha, there are people who never return exam papers.what to do?
Things such as that can certainly create unwelcomed tension in an office environment. Part of being a part of a team is to collaborate with others. Cleaning and organizing workspace can be approached as a team concept with every member playing a particular role.
Shobha, That's a tough one. It's hard to work in a disorganized environment and one that you can't control. Letting go of trying to control the environment is probably the best step. It may be more important to focus on things you can impact, like your course materials and grading process.
