K.I.S.S.
Keeping it simple is a natural way to streamline or organize things. The tools presented in this module are wonderful ways to simplify one’s life. The more efficient one can perform a task, the more time and less stress you will have. With more time and less stress, we can become better instructors for our students.
Nancy, Excellent to hear. Glad you are able to apply what you are learning here to your work.

I like that "Keep it Simple Student" idea much better than what the original stood for, which was degrading. I think I will use that in my class. Thank you!
During certain courses, that need focus on the information given and not over thinking I write in big letters on the board as a reminder this portion of our learning is the K.I.S.S method:
In class we call it Keep It Simple STUDENT
After a few laughs it lightens the mood and class gets in the learning mode.
I totally agree. The more time we have the more accessible we are for tutoring and student services. K>I.S.S will make my job and life so much better.
As well as still maintain a fraction of the time for the aspect of life known as the personal realm
keeping it simple saves you a lot of time. Often time we make things hard when it is not. If you have a plan it will make your task easier.K.I.S.S
Jacob, I like it! Thanks very much for sharing your "Bonneville-ing approach." Yes, sometimes we really do need to get to the heart of what needs to be done and give up bells and whistles.

I kind of have my own version of K.I.S.S. I call it Bonneville-ing. Anyone who appreciates hot rods or anything that goes really fast can probably relate. When you want something to go exceptionally fast, you stip off everything that doesn't need to be there. Much like the old salt flats racers of yore, who stipeed their old go-jobs down to bare bones, I try to apply that principal to everyday activities and prodedures. No use over-complicating things. Life can be difficult. Like too much weight on a race car, life can weigh heavy, so I try to streamline anywhere I can
Life already has speed bumps for us. I think the simpler we can make our "chores" the more reasonable the time for completion will seem. The wheel is here and it works!
Key points in a sudject is one way I help to keep it simple. PERPOSE,FUNCTION, OPTIONS.
Scott, Yes, it's really important to first take a step back and assess the task before getting started. A little strategic thinking on the best way to get the task done can pay off big in the end. Sometimes, your approach can make or break you.

In my opinion "keeping it simple" is one of the best ways I can set up or approach a task. More often than not I would observe people making tasks more complicated than need be. Most of the time if they just stepped back and looked at what they were going to do before they dived in, the task would have taken less time and less aggrivation
For me, part of this "keep it simple" method when grading has to do with focusing on grading the student based on "understanding the concept and using it" rather than regurgitating alot of facts&numbers. While I don't want to promote overly-wordy and hard to grade "essay-style" workbooks, I don't get hung up on small details, but rather grade based on the student's grasp of what they learned. Details and being professional are important, and precision answers&numbers have their place, but they are time consuming to grade, and sometimes don't reflect the real understanding of what was taught.
I live by K.I.S.S.. other do not and then their issues become our stress and take time from more important tasks.
lowering stress in our professonal and home lives is so important and the K.I.S.S. method is very effective yet sometimes hard to learn.
Martin, Indeed true. Efficiency opens up so much time for other things. It's critical to always find ways of streamlining our work lives so we keep our schedules open for what matters.

Totally agree. However, KISS is sometimes hard to accomplish in a workplace where people try to over-analyze things rather than simplify them. I consider myself a SIMPLIFIER in a world of people trying to drown themselves in a glass of water. For my department I have created forms that help us keep track of our students' progress and help us populate the EGB much faster at the EOC. However, in order to accomplish this, if I would have needed Management approval or a Corporate decision to make this happen, these new "time management" forms would have probably ended in FILE 13! :-/
