I also teach in the allied health field and agree with using all multiple choice and true and false. This does save a lot of time. I will however use fill in for things such as medical terminology.

I agree. It is hard to grade lots of projects at the same time. I like to break them up.

This is a great way and I am glad you mentioned this. I like multiple choice but essay questions really make the students think and answer in their own words.

Larry, It sounds like you know the style of question that best assesses student learning. That's great to hear. When deciding on the best kinds of questions, we have to balance formats that make our grading efficient with those that help us deeply assess knowledge.

Multiple choice is good if you want to stay focused on a specific criteria. In my field we cover a broad range of material. Therefore, I use a lot of essay questions to make sure the students understand the specifics and also how all the parts work together to form a working picture.

I teach in the allied health field, so I try to keep everything running smoothly and without complications. This is the reason why all of my tests and quizzes are multiple choice. It keeps everything moving along quickly.

keeping an open mind and making sure they at least hit the objectives is a grading criteria I give myself
