When I first became an instructor, I used to develop everything on my own. Then as time passed, at in-service training I started interacting with other online instructors and found they had material they used that could help me in accomplishing my tasks in a more efficeint time frame. I asked for copies of their material and looked at incorporating it into my systmes of teaching. I found that even though some were great methods, they just did not work for my particular style. So I have learned that there are great ideas and tools availiable to me and that it is important to be open to the ideas of those around me, at the same time realizing customizing their ideas to fit my style will make me the most efficient, best instructor.
I agree Kathy, when I first started the Program that I was hired to create it was very stressful as there were really no other programs like this one nor were there any online resources or instructor text books. I found that as I taught a class the second time around it was much easier because all I had to do was update the initial information. Also as more programs like mine began I was able to work with the individuals from the different schools to add to my curriculum. Once I started to share information with different instructors I would take what I felt was relevant to what I was teaching and incorporated it with information that I had.
