Sharing a work place

I work with 3 other instructors and we often do not work at the same times. we all share the same work space and I feel at times it is easy for our work space to get very cluttered. What is a good approach to communicating with my fellow co-workers about keeping a more organized area?

I do the same as you. At my place of work, we all have allocated space for what we need. Our desks are reasonable, and we do have file cabinets for our use. I could have a couple of more, but I use what I have. But is confusing to me is the use of my space prior to me getting to work, and how I always have a lot of stuff that doesn't belong to me on my previously cleaned desk. Every time I come to work in the evenings, I always have to move stuff. This often bothers me because I don't do others like this, and we all have adequate amount of space. Of course I get the apologies when I arrive, but really and truly one shouldn't have to always apologize if they just simply respect my space.
Just went on a small venting spell...lol

Michael, Yes, asking your team for input is a great way to get buy in for ideas and direction. It can also be a wonderful way to elicit ideas that you hadn't thought of too.

I like the idea of soliciting input...that way you don't come across as demanding or "bossy".
Also, I am always looking for good ideas to help organize myself more effectively (I'm naturally not very organized, I must work at it to keep things under control).

The school Im at we share spaces as well. Each person can be assigned to a desk drawer so you can store your belongings. I keep all my papers organized so I dont get in the way of my co workers and we all do the same thing.

I would send an e-mail to my fellow co-workers about allocating the work space as needed individually. Soliciting their input would greatly improve the efficiency of the work area and the work environment.
