Rajini, When students correct exams for other students, it's often a great learning experience. The important information tends to sink in a little deeper. They also tend to layer in additional detail on top of what they already know.

There are several ideas that I obtained from the module to streamline the grading process. One area is for each exam I would like to incorporate at least 30% multiple choice and fill in the blank type of questions. This will assist in saving time when grading the assessments. The homework is computer based and it is graded by the online tool that I use for the course. This is helpful, since I do not need to do any grading for the homework. I check the students' progress and then post the grade in the online gradebook. For exams with essays, I will begin to ask the students to underline key terms in their answers. This will also assist in saving time.
I think the online grading process is a great idea especially when I spend so much time grading and giving make up exams. I have used test generators from the support materials of the text book publisher that have helped streamline preparation of tests in a format which is easy to grade.
Kimberly, That's wonderful to hear. When an institution invests in technology that streamlines grading, everybody wins.

Being an art instructor most of my homework assignments and graded work is in art form. I do however use essay formatted test in the class, I was intrigued when I read about having the students highlight the key points in their essays. I believe this will dramatically save me time while grading these tests.
I would like to use the technique of having students correct each others charting & discuss on next day the important points they did well and the ones they missed. Also emphasis on the important information like assessment of abdomen includes bowel sounds, frequencies of stool, type, color and amount of stool along with inspection, and palpation of abdomen.
Our school uses Turn-it-in software to check for plagiarism. The school also provides grading rubrics which really help streamline the grading process.
I do not teach any didatic classses. However, if asked to do so I now know of many resources available to me.
I have recently just done this, I streamlined the tests that were provided by my SBU head and made them much easier to grade, this has saved me a great deal of time without having to use multiple choice exams which I find not to be nuanced enough.
Ryan, Web based grading can significantly speed the process. I'm glad to hear that you and your administration are giving this technique a try. It will most likely be well worth the investment.

Shanika, For many instructors, class sizes are growing. It is important to invest in learning streamlining techniques while our classes are small. This way, we can quickly scale when we need to.

Dr. Read,
For a couple years now, I have used autocorrect in Word to provide feedback. Before gradding an assignment, I will assign my feedback short key combinations. For example, if I want to post feedback concerning APA formatting issues, I will use "APAitc" for problems with citing the references within the text. Using this method I have found that I can provide about a paragrpah of feedback in under 30 seconds.
This was very helpful to me since my class size has jumped recently.
As an instuctor of Massage therapy, I utilize every variable in making tests whether its T/F, Multiple choice, short answer or multiple choice. And depending on the class I may just use one particular type of question format (I.e. Kinesiology - multiple choice and labeling) or I may use a combination (i.e. sports & seated massage - short answer & multiple choice). With either testing type I am fortunate to have smaller classes so I do not run into trouble when trying to grade 10 papers at a time.
As of now, the test and lab sheet grading is quite time consuming. In the future, a large portion of the ciriculum will web based. This should greatly reduce the grading work load and require much less time.
I use all multiple choice, true/false, and fill in the blank for my tests/quizzes, so grading them is pretty easy and quick. However, some of my homework assignments are papers, journals, essay questions, etc., so I like the idea of having them highlight the key terms/answers. I think I will implement that to make grading homework easier on myself in the future.
That is a great system to use. The document comes back with red parts that are plagiarized. Great tool!
When I grade essay papers I look for content and grammar usage, punctuation, etc. By having the students highlight the proper components of the content part, I could save a lot of time.
