Shared accomodations

In our school the adjunct instructors all share the same space pretty much. Some of the instructors carry all of their materials with them. I have noticed that the people we work with are all very respectful of eachother, and if someone sees something that doesn't belong to them, they don't mess with it. Common curtesy goes a long way.

Kathleen, That sounds like a tough challenge. You might just communicate this to your administration in a professional way. Sometimes administrations are happy to help enhance faculty productivity. They just need transparency into the challenges you face.

Dr. Melissa Read

As instructors, we do not have office space of our own but we do have classrooms where we are scheduled most often. We keep our papers, books, etc in our classrooms and that works well UNTIL they schedule us in another room. We must then remember to bring everything we need with us or risk interrupting the other class or doing without.

When two or more instructors share space all need to know which area(s) exclusively belong to them. The same is true of teaching materials. When these two things are established, there is less chance of confusion and misunderstanding.
This needs to be done very early in the shared experience.
