Timesavers!

I'm always trying to improve my grading time so the "50%" idea is truly helpful. While I like multiple choice and T/F quizzes, I rely on essays to judge my student's grasp of the subject we're studying. I never liked them in college, but now I understand why they made us do them!

Mobile devices are cropping up in every facet of life; does anyone have a good "one-stop shop" to get up to speed with these gadgets?

I teach sociology, one of the most time saving tools I use is having a study sheet for each chapter with terms & short answer questions...these are the chapter high-lights and lecture points. I choose quiz questions from the short answer questions. I review the quiz answers with the students & they record the correct answer on the quiz. They KEEP the quiz to study & staple it to the back of their exam. I grade be both @ the same time. If all of the quiz is correct they receive full credit ...if not I deduct points. then I write both grade @ the top of the exam. I also enter the grades in the computer grade book @ the same time. The study sheet keeps the students & me on track...If I skip something in lecture...they ask questions to make sure they have all the correct information.
Allowing them to correct their own quiz helps them know instantly what hey need to study...It is a fairly efficient system.

A, That's an important question. For many instructors, simply learning by doing works best. You can start small with a few mobile applications and work your way up as you start to feel more confident. Also, if you hit a roadblock, simply search the answer on google. Chances are, someone else has already had the same technology issue, and the answer to your question is already out there.
