Making time for Me

Working Monday through Friday 7:30pm-4:30pm at a hospital and then teaching Monday-Thursday from 6:00pm-10:00pm, my me time becomes very limited. My 1 hour lunch from my day job is my Me time.5:00-5:45 is my time to prepare for my class. 10:30pm-11;30pm is trying to catch up with family time. The weekend become Golden Time for all other catch up time.

That is a very busy work week. I also work days and tutor after school so I spend a lot of time in the car. I even do some work in parking lots if needed.

I try to step out of the building because otherwise the "me time" can easily escape with student/co-worker questions and you end up working instead of taking break.

I agree. I am in the classroom from 8:00am until 5:30 pm with only 30 mins break for lunch. I use that 30 mins just for me and try to de-stress before going back to class. My week-ends are all for me and my family. I don't even think what I have to do on Mondays

Aaron,

I too have a very hectic work schedule. I am usually up at 4:00 a.m everyday to see patients. After that, it is nonstop until I have to teach class. I currently have one class that I teach two days a week. But once the fall comes, my class load sometimes triples and I am left wondering where all my time has gone. And more often than not, I work half day on Saturdays which leaves me only Sundays to try and decompress. So, yes I completely understand what you go through, Aaron.

exercise is a good benefit for me time especially if your in an environment you enjoy

It is difficult, especially when there is such a limited amount of free time to accomplish everything we'd like to considering many of us have very similar schedules. I have found that without taking a few moments to appreciate the whys of what we do & how we do it, we tend to stress ourselves by cramming too much into a shorter time span. By doing that, we actually miss the meaning & impact of the time spent doing what we enjoy & it doesn't give us the satisfaction we had hoped for.

You must make time for yourself always. You come first and you must acknowledge that and then move from there.

Considering your hectic schedule, it is very important for you to make time for yourself, family, and your responsibilities at work. I wish we had Siesta in this country.

Aaron, Is sounds like you treasure your lunch breaks as well as your weekends. It's wonderful to know that you have that small amount of down time to work with. It isn't much but it's something!

I find it hard to make time for me also. I work a similar schedule...except I teach high school during the day. With three kids, my weekends are consumed with sports and activities. It is vital for me to set time aside for just me or it's extremely easy to become overwhelmed and stressed.
