what stresses me out
I get stressed out when my employeer mandates that i must take these online classes.
I like these courses, and enjoy taking them. Some of the info is more helpful than others, but it's actually the type of training I welcome.
First I thought that I am the only one who whines taking these on-line courses but post reading your comments I found myself sailing with you in the same boat!!. It is true that we sometimes get new ideas by taking such courses but at the same token most of the material is just reiterated. It adds stress especially when it has time string attached to it.
I had to laugh when I saw one persons response about taking these online courses....I don't stress about them, but I do have my opinion about them...
What does stress me is when I come to class the 1st day and I find out that no one has books for the class because there aren't any. We take a break, I go to the bookstore and find out indeed that someone didn't order them when they were suppose to and they won't be in for two weeks. It's a class on learning how to play the piano and it's crucial to have the book. It's one of the few times I loose it. I have to punt quickly and go make copies of several pages in my book so the 4 hour class can continue or it will be a bust. It makes me look like an idiot cause it's probably assumed that I was the one who was suppose to order the books, when it actually wasn't. Morale of this story, don't assume anything cause you know what assume means....
I second that emotion and we should not be fearful in expressing it. By all means we must complete this course work, but at the same time we can say how we feel.
James and all-
I think the difference is that if you work for a company where you are face to face and have to go to a training seminar- you are paid for it.
It isn't more time spent in front of a computer with no pay. That is the difference.
Any thoughts on that?
Yes, that is a good point. I have that same requirement at a school I teach at. We must be at the same school. 72 hours is not a deadline in mainstream day schools. It's another factor in a school where students rule. Very stressful.
The 72 hr deadline for turning in grades can be stressful, especially when students are turning in their assignments late. You have to rearrange your schedule to grade their assignments as well.
I get stressed out when I have so much work to do on my full time job and still have to meet the grading deadline to be in compliance with CTU. I get stressed because I always want to have my grades turned in by the 72 hour turn around. That can be stressful at times, depending on what is going on in my life.
One of the things that really stresses me out is when students submit their assignments late. I try really hard to manage my time with grading and having everyone's assignments grading on time. When they submit assignments late, it impacts my time management schedule.
I completely agree, sometimes I feel thats all I do is training and more learning about information that I already know. But once I have completed it I have to honestly say I did learn something that I didn't know before so they are benefical.
I agree the courses seldom have helpful information and do more to stress and insult an instructor's intelligence.
I think you both have a good point. But Jimmy and many other teachers are in school right now. It just seems that there is twice the work load. Or more like doing the same thing twice. Bothe are online education.
Although I have to agree with you James, we need to remember that we are required to take classes as part of our professional responsibility. I just grit my teeth and get it done. I do try to get out of the course what I can but like you, I do not like this type of learning.
