re writing curriculum can be stressfull
We are rewriting curriculum for a new couse which is stress full because we have a dead line to meet.We have found a quite place with no distactions seems to help.
Also, receiving a new syllabus from the parent school can cause tremendous stress. This quarter we inplemented a new syllabus, new book and new technology based grammar program all at once. we could not get our instructor log ins to preview the new program so we are struggling to keep our knowledge just a step ahead of our students. Students and instructors are stressed. It would have been better to "phase" in each new element over a longer time period to allow everyone to learn the new materials and adjust.
Yes, textbook publishers are great about providing supplementary teaching materials. Previous instructors also often have great content to share.
Because of the complexity and increasing volume of the instructors daily requirement its best to create and environment which is both quiet and supportive to the concentration required to complete the task. secondly it is helpful to access the textbook publisher and any instructor who has previous experience as a resource.
That sounds very frustrating Bruce. It's always a challenge when we invest too much energy in the wrong tasks.
How about this for a stressor. Many of my co-workers have been re-writing our curriculum to meet a new class time/schedule, only to find out last week that they are going to have to conform to a standardized curriculum to align with the other schools in our division. Oops, sorry you worked so hard on something you care about.
I find that an occaisional change of scenery is very helpful. Taking work away from my desk, to an unused classroom or quiet outdoor location often helps to reinvigorate my efforts.
Yes, quiet places with no distractions are very helpful when dealing with stress. Just being able to close the door and get work done can really help you get ahead.
