what's stressing me out
just like a majority of people... I feel like I am constantly running after time both personally and at work. Also, changes in the structure of work hours and work pay is causing me a lot of stress lately.
I always tell myself on a stressful day that the day will end. No matter what happens, it will end.
Excellent to hear Gilbert. I think it's important that you mentioned personal fulfillment. The strategies in this course are not just about being more efficient. They are also about finding ways to return to what's most important in life.
You are right about staying organized in this time of an economic downturn. Some of the tools given in this course can help one focus on priorities and goals that will hopfully move an educator toward personal fulfillment and professional success.
That's a tough situation Oriole. Tough to make a recommendation on what to do. The best thing is usually to have a backup plan just in case.
Same here, only I have had the added stress of overhearing that I was to be let go. I have lived with that stress for almost a year.
I finally got up the nerve to ask my boss about it but was told it was untrue. I should feel better, but don't. I just don't trust anyone now.
I like your thinking Michael. Sometimes it's best to just focus on today, and on what we can control. It's easy to get overwhelmed in life with the larger context in which we live.
That's wonderful to hear Scott. Not all instructors can say this. Sounds like you are lucky to have found a close and supportive group to work in.
I agree. Stress has increased in the last few years. The recession has affected my life personally and professionally. One or the other should be an escape but it has affected me full circle. Unfortunately, the stress has taken the joy out of something I use to love. I am thankful to have a job and always firmly focused on the job at hand.
I also feel that as instructors we are also great sources of support for one another. A few of my co-workers are also my closest friends, which is really really nice....esp on the stressful days.
You are so right Gena, being balanced with work and home is even more important now than ever. I'm happy to get home each day to a relaxing environment. At work at least we have the support of each other, when the core team is strong it makes it easier to accomplish the extra tasks given to us.
Stress has really hit a peak over the last few years Peter. With the economic challenges we face, as well as the impact these challenges make on so many aspects of life, many instructors have reached their highest stress levels in many years.
Yes, organization and staying on top of things is the key to staying balanced Gena. I'm glad you have a healthy appreciation about both the stress everyone experiences in life as well as what to do about it.
Stress is an unfortuneate part of our lives both personally and professionally. Sometimes we just have to go with the wave and remember to stay focused on the positive things. Staying organized and not procrastinating helps to keep me balanced. We are all going through time and are probably as chef George put at the highest level of stress in a very long time.
Hi Mary Jo,
With the constant changes in the direction of this educational institution and the uncertainity and direction of our jobs ,stress is as high as I have seen it in many , many years.
Hang in there MJ.
It's good that you know you're not alone Mary. It's good to keep in mind that there are many others just like you who face similar challenges.
