Not enough time in the day!

Generally, I get stressed in regards to the number of tasks that need to be completed every day - the schedule is relentless! I plan to use some of the suggestions in regards to faster classroom preparation to assist in making more time every day!

It is hard to complete every thing one has to do in a day if the priority of tasks are changed and other people do not complete the tasks you need done so you can move foward with yours.

I have the same feelings teaching day and evening classes and raising 2 teenagers on my own. It can be incredibly stressful when I do not manage my time. This is the area in my life that I am commited to take charge of. I think by doing that, my stressors will not have such an effect on me.

It seems like most of us on this forum probably have more things to complete in a day than is humanly possible. What I've tried doing for a while now is the prioritize the important things by making a list (using an iPhone app) and putting the most urgent/important things at the top of that list and focusing on those first. Usually these are the time sensitive tasks that have to be completed by a certain date/time. The things that are less important or aren't time sensitive may just have to be put on hold until the next day or so.

I can save time in my day if I can have some of the quicker students turn in work as soon as they finish, instead of waiting till the end of the day.

I work in the culinary field and teach a production class that produces weekly buffets. The classes are only 5 hours long which makes it difficult to teach everything necessary within those 5 hours but also have time to prep for the buffets. Time management is of essence here but combined with absent students or changes by the administration, the stress level can be extremely high at times.

I agree. There is never enough time. Teach from 8-4:30, then pick up the kids, the cook dinner, then get the kids to bed and then I finally get about 1 hour to myself. I guess after a while it becomes you routine, but the older I'm getting the more I wonder how much I can take.

Good outlook Joannie. We've got to recognize that it's not all going to happen today. We've got to pace ourselves when completing tasks and set reasonable expectations. Otherwise, it's easy to feel overwhelmed.

I agree that the number of tasks to complete daily cannot be completed in one day. I do intend to continue to make "to do" lists and prioritize to minimize or eliminate daily tasks as stressors.

I never hav enough time. Right when I think I have it all down, something comes up. I have to take some things out that are not that important

We never have enough time to get everything completed! So we need to set priorities and stick to those. Work/life balance is key!

I know I used to think that there was not enough time in a day to complete what I thought had to be done. I learned to manage my time through listening to a cd that taught me how to manage my time through the power of engagement. It has helped me in most situations.

Some days can seem as though there is not enough time to complete everything. If this is a daily situation, finding a streamlined way of dealing with daily activities is advisable. Some ways of doing tasks take a great deal of time.
