Stress Related Impact to Work
At what point do you remove stressors to keep the workplace going?
I try and stay focused on the task at hand. My cubicle is the second in from the door and I have made it a point not to look up every time someone comes in and out. At other times I have placed earphones in when I am not listening to anything in order to decrease interruptions
To remove stressor in the workplace, well that is hard to remove. Unfortunately, administrative runs the business and how we are to follow all Policies and Procedures, but then I see something a long the lines of changes on the whim. Which does bunch my shorts?? I just tend to do my job the best I can and stay away from the stressors. My opinions --well I question myself will they take my opinion or ignore the opinion. but if I don't state something--nothing will change. So I just state my opinion anyway-with a little professionalism and a play on words.
Becki, Sounds like your career has been a struggle, but one that you've managed through well. Thanks for your honest assessment. Yes, sometimes it can feel tempting to make big changes, but that can end up getting us into trouble. Sometimes the challenges we know are better than the challenges we don't know.

I think that time management has a lot to do with this, too. Stressors can be compounded by poor time management and can be (somewhat) relieved by adequate time management.
I agree that adopting the "Serenity Prayer" method can be helpful = understanding what stressors are in our control and which are not. It makes it easier to know where to put the time and effort of getting stressed out!!
I believe that many stressors are out of our control. Those at work; for instance, are put there by the "powers that be" and are not going to change. Your only way to get away from them is to change jobs; however, then you only exchange them for a different type of stressor. I have survived here for over 20 years. One way I have done that is to try (really hard) to not worry about those things that I cannot change. I try to keep my work stressors down to a minimum when possible because my outside stressors keep me crazy most of the time.
Margie, That's a great question. The answer really depends. If we could, most instructors would choose to eliminate all stressors that impact work. But the consequences of doing so, for some stressors, are simply too great. In these situations, we must learn to cope or reduce stress to the best of our ability.
