What's stressing you out?

I stress out about almost everything. I love the boring and routine days. When something new occurs, I panic. I have noticed that I have a poor short-term memory and difficulty concentrating on tasks and felt burned-out. Even when I plan for the "what if's" I still seem to have some sort of stress. I reduce my stress with exercise and gardening, so the winter months are the worst time of year for me.

The typical things at school stree me out like acquiring a new class or completely changing texts but I find I love test days. Test days I am able to really sit back and watch the students do all the work. They are great

the pressure of stress sometimes providdes me motivation to continue on to the next priority. Making a priority list is what i need to make in to my daily habits! this would help with some of the stress level... making a list keeps me on track.

To me commuting to and from work is the most stressful part of my job. Doing the new syllabus also add stress to my job.

deadlines stess me out! if it was not for deadlines, I might be stress free.....

Tammy, Wow, it sounds like you have a lot of stress at work. It's nice to hear that your family life makes for a good balance. Ten hour work days are tough. Hopefully you are able to take breaks. Even a 15 minute break, and the chance to walk away, could be a big help.

I am lucky in that my children are grown and I'm single and live alone so I have very little family obligations on a day to day basis. My stress comes from starting my own academic path after 30 years. Along with working 10 hour days and keeping up with student demands it's quite a hand full.

I also love the 'routine'. I don't do well with change too well. But what I have learned is that if I have enough time I can introduce the change slowly. For example, our school went to a computerized assistance program for our students. We were told ahead of time and I signed up for a orientation course they offered. I also tried to experiment with it in class before the "due" date. I found that worked much better than stressing out about being forced to learn about it and implement it on the fly.

Kurtis, It sounds like you are a creature of habit. Some routines are likely productive for you. Others may prevent you from exploring new approaches that may lead to greater efficiency.

I feel the same way. Supervising 4 instructors 40+ hours a week, then home life on top of that is crazy! We can't forget to take care of ourselves too

Working fulltime and having to manage a household stresses me out. I feel like there are not enough hours in a day or week to do everything at work and home. Managing both can be stressful. This is where I need to ask for help and also prioritize
