Different ways of coping with stress

Exercise & Sharing

This is true Elizabeth. Sometimes, when we hear about the troubles that others are experiencing, it puts our troubles into perspective.

Great points Jose. Yes, grandchildren can give us a new perspective on life and on the stress we experience.

Music either listeneing to or recording music is always ways of coping with stress. Watching a movie, playing with the dog, and enjoying the new experience that a 2 year-old grandson teaches me eliminates the daily stress.

We all have our own ways to deal with stress.. mine is sharing thoughts and being a good listener. Sometimes other peoples problems have a way of making yours seem less.

Interesting points Chris. I like the idea of using mood music. I find it works well while traveling in airplanes as well.

Spouses are great partners in de-stressing. It's our job, as lovers and friends, to make sure that we aren't dumping on the better half. Reciprocation is something we should always practice, lest we create more stress for those most important to us.

On a related note, using mood music in the car really helps. A former VP of Ogilvy & Mather advertising agency shared her experience with Baroque string music and a drive through the Carson Valley in Nevada. Even here in the Chicago metro area, it's still possible to use relaxing mood music. Enya is a good choice. Even silly bands like Devo can do the trick.

Our students, families and co-workers all benefit from us being more even-keeled!

Hi David I completely agree with you, I have a husband that is a great listener and really gives me the opportunity to let out my stress and irratation. I often will hit the tredmill as well and listen to some music to loosen me up.

I am very lucky to have a wife that I can discuss my stress with. Although she mostly listens, it truly is a huge stress relief to get whatever it is that is making me stressed off my chest. I also find that jogging is another good stress relief.
