Reducing Stress
I have learned that adult learners have an
attention span of about 15 minutes. I know when
I have taken classes that is true. When I start
to feel unfocused, I simply close my eyes and take
several slow deep breaths. I find this brief break
to help focus my attention on the task at hand.
That sounds wonderful Jeannie! Even just taking a few hours for you can significantly improve your outlook. Keep it up!
To feel happy and stress feel once a week, i have fun night after work with the girls for 2 hours.
I really like the idea of changing your teaching style many times during the period Mary. I think our students really need this approach for a few reasons. For starters, switching helps students better pay attention to our material. Also though, as there are so many different learning styles, a variety of teaching styles really helps us reach each and every one of our students.
I have been teaching for 11 years, and I find it so fascinating that each class is totally different in it's specific needs. I too have had a few classes that seem to only have an attention span of 15 min. at a time. I try to give frequent breaks and change up my teaching style many times during the period of time that they are with me. I think this really helps reduce the student's stress, and at the same time, that helps me cope with the many needs of all the different students in my class. I think we all benefit from the reduced stress.
Interesting strategy Farrell. On one hand, you have more frequent grading but on the other, the grading you do is very minimal when it happens. Glad this is working for you and thanks for sharing!
To help reduce stress I find it benificial to give small assignments at a time. Slowly delivering information does not overwhom the students and gives me an opporunity to work at my pace.
