Maintain a healthy lifestyle

In order to earn the respect and be a role model for students, it is important to take good care of your physical health which will in turn reduce everyday stress. Healthy food preperation, time to eat, stay hydrated and exersize regulary will give someone the strength to stop smoking and drinking. When you begin to feel the results, its amazing how much the stress level dissipates.

I am now 64 years old....I have always tried to take care of myself.Excercise has played a big part in my life...running, lifting weights, healthy diet and regular check ups. I hope I was a role model for my students. All of these things will help one's stress level.A hobby is good also.....playing golf is very relaxing and good excercise at the same time.

Eric, So true. It's important to release the stress in your body so it's not manifested in other ways - like sickness. Exercise is a wonderful way to let it go!

Dr. Melissa Read

I agree the amount of stress you have in your body can be released by taking the time to give yourself some way to release your stress.I feel that exercise helps take away the big stress then you can work on the small ways to help others and yourself and you will feel better.

Indeed. Life is about choices Jenny. We have control over so much. Sometimes it's a good idea to take a step back and remind ourselves of it however to make sure we stay in control.

I completely agree. I find personal mind and body control helps reduce stress. You have a choice in what you put in your body and you have control of which people you associate with. Once I realized these things I became much healthier.

Yes you have to take care of yourself first then everything else will fall into place

That's great to hear Robert. It's important for instructors to try to be good role models for our students. If we lead stress free lives, they can emulate after our healthy behaviors. Sounds like you have more than a few of those.

I agree Sheryl. It's amazing how much calmer I feel after good cardio exercise. I always try to eat well and I don't smoke. I'm in my later 50's and teach culinary arts, where I ofter have to pick up heavy objects. I think my students admire how I keep myself and my stress level down.

Ha! Well it's good to hear you are able to so easily determine who is paying attention Patricia!

I too believe in a healthy lifestyle to promote to my students. Not all of them pay attention but some do and those are the students that usually stay awake in class.

Indeed true Barbara. When we maintain a healthy lifestyle, we are in an excellent position to excel ourselves. We are stronger for others who need to lean on us too.

I agree. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not just good for you, but can make you a much nicer person to be around, as well as making you more productive at work. You have to be content with yourself before you can be happy, and able to be helpful to others.

This is so true Samuel. We've got to take care of ourselves first. When we're in great shape, it's easy to help others.

I am a firm believer of taking care of yourself before you can send a positive message to others. How can you be a good leader when you don't feel positive about yourself.

Indeed! As they say in the airplane industry, "you've got to put the oxygen mask on yourself before you can put it on anyone else." Very important to focus on you first Sheryl. Then you'll be able to help everyone else much more effectively.
