Sounds like the right approach Renee! Sometimes we really do need to just take a step back and look at the big picture.
I will not let the ineptitude of others impact my life. I will put their stress inducing actions in perspective and carry on with my life.
Hi Carol,
Lets exercise together.
I will breathe more and take more time out of my very busy life to walk or get some type of exercise.
I am going to work on those stressors that I can eliminate and not wait too long. Then I will work on healthy Coping mechanisms that I learned in this module.
Hello Dr. Read,
STRESS IS A PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE !!!!! (The previous statement is in all caps just to let off a little steam (haha...just kidding :-) I find that exercise is a really great coping mechanism. I find that a nice walk on the road "less taken" is a real stress reliever. Also, I recently saw on the news that a good belly laugh does the body good. I do try to find humor in all that happens around me and I do believe that laughing is better than medicine, alcohol, or drugs. We all tend to take life way to seriously. We didn't have things like "road rage" when I grew up. Things were much simpler in the "good ole days".
In looking through the various ways of coping with stressors that cannot be eliminated a few of the ideas really jumped out at me. First, I love physical exercise as a way of reducing stress. It is healthy for you both physically and emotionally. I definitely notice that there are times when I am stressed that my breathing becomes less than ideal. I need to remind myself to breath deeply and calmly as often as possible. I find that stressors have a tendency to keep me up at night, reducing the amount of sleep that I get. Increasing physical exercise during the day to relieve stress will also have the bonus of encouraging sleep at night. Waking up refreshed will help me better deal with the unavoidable stresses I must face each day.
Now that the weather is turning warmer, I plan on taking a walk during my lunch break. I love the outdoors, and I think this should help me recharge my batteries as well as help me lose weight.
I will also take some time to pick up my crochet hook and relax for some time at least twice a week. I have an afghan that is almost finished from two years ago, and I think it will be refreshing to finally get it finished.
Hi Jeff,
Good plan and good advice for others to follow. We have to take care of our bodies and minds so we can be effective in helping others.
Gary
i think i will give that a try
I often find that if i walk outside , I can usually walk of a little bit of stress simply because of a nice day. Sometimes its also nice to do some pushups in a quite place to burn off some stress or anxiety....
to reduce my stressors I will contnue to excersize and try to do streaching during the day
I think I have alot of stress becuase I am always stretching and I guess naturally relieving it on my own.
Hi Jamie,
Some time you just have to step away and you are doing just that with your going out of the building. It helps reset the mind and gets the blood flowing in the body.
Gary
Pay more attention to the amount of sleep I get, especially on work nights.
Mary O
More exercise and activities on the weekends to clear my mind and divert my thoughts from stressors from work. More exercise during the week as well.
In the past I would work through my lunch, to reduce stress in my work day, I actually take my entire break, leaving the building if i am able to and bring a good book. At the end of my break I certainly do feel refreshed.
Continue with my deep breathing and relaxation techniques I learned in Yoga.
physical and breathing exercises.
Sounds like an excellent plan Warren! Note that all of these approaches are great, but you don't have to accomplish them all at once. Doing one thing at a time and seeing how that benefits you is a great way to get into things.
