Walking stress away

A healthy way I have learned to cope with the stress of every day life is walking. I put my tennis shoes on, and my ear buds in my ears and hit the ground walking. I have more energy, feel less stress, and overall....I am more healthy.

I have become reunited with this technique when I had to walk to pick up my car from the repair shop!! I realized how much I missed it and have encorporated it back into daily routine

William, That's a great approach - for you and the dog. It's nice to know you have the flexibility to work either in the morning or evening. Gives you some nice options to structure your day when you have less flexibility in other areas of life.

Exercise is a great idea it really helps me cope with stress. I walk before or after work with my dog. That way the dog gets his exercise and I get time to clear my mind. Depending on my shift I do this least 4 to 5 times a week.

Whenever I'm stressed at work i'll just go outside and walk. I also tell my students when they are getting frustrated to take a 10 minute break and walk outside or in the halls

Nicole, Wow, sounds like you have a wonderful living situation. Some instructors are lucky enough to live near nature and great outdoors activities. For them, they can experience a wonderful and low stress lifestyle.

I totally agree with you, I live on the beach and there is nothing better than to put on your tennis shoes, go for a walk and enjoy the beautiful things in life....

If I can't get out of the office, I talk to myself anyway! It seems to help...

Tina, Sounds like you have some great coping mechanisms. Keep them up. I like the idea of saying things out loud. Sometimes it's nice to get things out there and out of our heads.

I walk up and down the stairs a few times. Or I take a walk out to my car and back. It only takes a few minutes and if I need to I can talk to myself too! Sometimes just saying things out loud helps!

Stephanie, Sounds like you have found a wonderful coping mechanism. I highly recommend walking. It's a low impact and great way to reduce stress. Some instructors run instead. This high impact activity can occasionally damage joints and muscles.
