Exercising and Relaxation

I am a phchology/criminal justice major, i use exercise as a technique to relieve my stress from school. When I get to work, I am prepared to deal with the stress of my students and my job with open heart, mind and soul.

Jen, Yes, for many instructors, exercise is an incredible outlet. Yoga is great because it's low impact but also so rewarding. I also love how you can do it anywhere.

I find exercising to be a huge stress relief, particularly practicing yoga.

Mouda, Nice! Sitting on the couch and just doing nothing can be a great way to take a break and unwind.

I agree, for me execise is a great way to relieve my stress and napping on the couch with my favorite blanket is complete RELAXATION.

Anita, So true. Sounds like you experience quite a bit of stress daily. I'm glad to hear you have that walk to keep you going. Having a coping mechanism you can rely on daily is a great way to handle so many responsibilities.

Walking in the evening and in the morning before work is a big stress reliever for me. I have 2 small children and have an hour and 15 min. commute to work one way everyday, but I really feel like you have to encorporate these things into your life in order to have balance with work and family.

Just taking a stroll (walking), jogging and going to the gym helps relieve tension and stress in so many ways.

Patricia, It's good to hear that you are always bringing fresh thinking to the classroom. It's important to never let yourself get dated and always find ways of staying current and improving.

Yes, I do come back with new thoughts to change the game plan in class. Or just do a little twicking the same one.. But just being outdoors or the sound of the outdoors helps me relax. or the sound of water...

Patricia, Wow, sounds like a wonderful outlet - for you and your pup. It's so nice when we can completely escape our stress, even temporarily. To your point, we often come back with an entirely new perspective.

I love to run and I bring my dog with...She loves it. But it relaxes me so much, I tend to forget what was stressing me out so much, I come back home thinking so differently and clearly.

During lunch time I go for walks and it makes my day when being out of the "four walls" building. Just to relax, stretch, breathe fresh air-changes the whole outlook of going back inside to continue to work.

Just taking a walk or throwing thje ball with the kids works

Judy, Sometimes in life we have setbacks that change our routines. Sounds like - for a few years - you needed rest more than exercise. I like the way your needs are changing. It sounds like you are returning to your old self.

Walking a minimum of 30 minutes a day not only helps to alleviate stress, it increases oxygenation levels and can serve to be a mild cardiac work-out.

I could not agree more. Running and cycling are keys to my ability to manage stress.

This is my goal and my new years resolution! Before I was in a car accident that left me unable to exercise for a few years I did this everyday and felt so good and refreshed, after not being able to exercise however, I fell out of the routine and then became lazy about keeping myself healthy...I can tell the difference and do not like it! This is going to change, now!
