Getting rid of stress
I find that getting rid of stress is a very easy thing if you take the time to do it. When not working I do not think about work or go back to work. I give myself time to do things that I enjoy doing to bring the stress and frustration level down. This works very well.
Several of you had great suggestions for stress reduction. I also like to get books on CD to listen to during the drive - something not work related - and found this helps me wind down too!
That sound like a good recipe for stress reduction, I too enjoy music on the drive to or from work and find I have taken the edge off before the time
I reach my destination.
Ha, April, I like your style! Love your "morning tea", "evening cocktails", etc. Clever :)
I, as well, relieve some stress by driving; I have a one-hour commute each way to and from school. Usually it's a pretty stree free drive, I space out, listen to music or NPR and don't think about school, etc.
The best stress reducer for me; however, is exercise. Doing an intense cardio workout (eg: a beautiful, strenuous hike- or bike ride) absolutely does it for me. I definitely get what some call a "runner's hi" and those endorphins kick in- not only putting me in a great mood, but also boosting my energy to do other things in my life!
I think if you find something that you enjoy to do when you are stressed it will help reduce the tension. Exercise, talks with friends, kids, etc.
I relieve stress by driving. It is a 40 minute drive to my home campus. A 2-hour drive between the second MMC campuses I currently teach at. And a 1 ½-hour drives home from the second campus. During my drive time, I usually turn off my mobile phone, pop in my favorite jazz CD, and just relax.
In addition to "driving my stress away", during any given time of the day...I jot day my thoughts and put them into compilations that I affectionately call: Morning Tea, Evening Cocktails, or Midnight snack.
If all the normal stress relievers do not work I found a hobby works real well. If none come to mind, think back to when you were a kid and wanted to do something and never could. Takes your mind off everything.
