Who is in control of your stress?

Ask yourself, "Am I in control of this stressful situation?" You can be!! It is important to be able to identify the cause of each stressful situation so you know how to effectively lower your stress. I believe it is important to take care of yourself first, whether it be making time for rest and relaxation or "digging in" to complete the task that may be causing you stress.

When one feels that stress is controling him/her, it can/will definitely make a negative impact on your emotions, your thoughts and even your health. Plan ahead and be prepared to get in control of things that might be causing stress in your life BEFORE it happens.

Yes, I need to be reminded of this. I put a picture of a HUGE wave with a surf boarder deciding whether to ride the wave or not. Below it I put the phrase: Let go or be dragged.

Cynthia, I very much like your thinking. It is not the stress situations that define our success, but how we choose to manage through them.

While we can not control some of the stressfull things that happen to us, we can control how we react to those things. Sometimes we can choose a reaction which helps reduse the stress. Then it is not so much what happens, but how we react. We do have control of how we react, if we think before we act.

Hi Nancy,

Stress can have a negative impact on us physically mentally & emtionally.

It is important for us to control ourselves and not let stress control us.

I agree with what you shared about planning ahead and taking contorl before stress takes over. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Thank you for sharing

Planning ahead is the key to staying on top or above your stress line. Developing a schedule will help to keep you on track.

I agree that preemptive measures to reduce or eliminate stress will always be a great practice. For the stressors that are out of our control, I find the best coping mechanism is speaking with instructors that teach the same classes. This sharing will remind us that we are not alone with the particular stresses and potentially learn a reducing or eliminating avenue from that other instructor.

I am in control of my stress, one cannot think someone else can do it for them but if you ask for help another person can help.

Roxsie, It sounds like you have realistic expectations of yourself and the way stress impacts you. I particularly like hearing that you have mastered the art of letting things go. That's a tough one for many instructors.

I agree I believe I am in control of a lot of things that cause stress in my life. I have learned to let things go and not get upset every time something does not work out the way I think it should.

we are often in control of our own stress, just some days we handle it better than others. On the bad days, take some time to slow down, re-assess and then approach the task in an organized manner

I think the best plan to deal with the stress, as you said who is really in control, and how do you have tools to deal with it. I find since I took this course that if I take a step back, and don’t jump in immediately, I have a greater sense of control. With this control you can see thing better, and evaluate your options...

i agree with you. taking care of yourself first and and try to relax with help with stress

I like how you thinking,I like your idea of controling situation and predicttion of the problem, but I am sure nobody can predict absolutelly everything in the life.

Nancy, I like your thinking. Thanks for sharing. Yes, it's good to always ask yourself if you can be in control of stressful situations. I should note though that sometimes, stress situations are out of our control. When this is the case, a different approach is often needed to manage through them. Sometimes coping mechanisms work better than trying to control things.

I have learned to be in control of my stress. When I am facing stressful situations, I have to stop and think (walk away for a minute) and decide how to eliminate this situation
