stress and exercise

This sounds crazy... I get stressed when I do not exercise, when I plan to do so and I fail to.

I like your approach because we can make all these grand plans with a big exercise regime and beat ourselves up for not following through. Even 10 minutes is a good thing! It's the right direction. We can all make time for 10 minutes. And when you're done with the 10 minutes you might just keep going!!!

I have to agree; due to work schedules and possible time used to commuting, it may be difficult to exercise before or even after work. So, why not use some of the time during lunch to relieve some stress?

I have found simple 10 minute walks around the campus outside on nice days is a great way to reduce stress and again a clear head.

Bruce, Great approach! Keeping mobile can be easy when we make simple choices. One example is to take the stairs instead of the elevator each time we want to change floors. All the walking can add up.

I have found that if I stay mobile, such as walking around or fixing things my mind stays busy and I get excercise all through the work day.

Charles, Yes sitting on the porch can be a great way to pass the time - with friends and family or independently. This also helps you connect with your community and can be a great forum for sharing if you feel comfortable too.

Exercise is the best stress reducer, if only it is a 20-minute walk. One of the things I found is
after your walk sit on the porch, relax, and enjoy the fresh air.

I am the same way. Exercise is a release; a time when one can focus on their body and release the physical tension that has built up during the day.

Exercise is one of the best remedies for stress. I know for a fact that when I exercise because I am stressed, it relieves or eliminate my stress altogether.

After doing this course it brought me back to focus on how the stress level and meeting deadlines. Even when I take my class room papers with me and read on the treadmill the workout helps and gives me a since of relaxation and less stress for the next day.

If the excercise does help by taking out some of the stress in your life it is important to set a schedule. I find if I allow a 10-30 minute break, I come back with a clear mind, relaxed and ready for the afternoon challenges. Schedule it it doesn't take long and you're worth it.

Mitch, I completely understand where you are coming from. It's tempting to want to take on the world every day. Many of us have so much on our plates. We've got to often scale back on our desired daily accomplishments and chip away at larger tasks over time for longer term gains.

I'm not much of a morning person because I like to get all of the sleep I can, so it is difficult for me to get out of bed extra early to work out, and when I get home so late in the evening, I'm ready for bed plus I don't want to be out late. So since my stressors occur while at my full time job, I take time out of my lunch break to walk and sometimes jog around the local park. Two lapse is one mile for me. When I return to work, I am more energized, alert, and ready to take on the last half of the day there.
So it's not a bad idea to utilize lunch to free your mind, and replenish yourself.

I feel so much better when I exercise but yet find it so stressful in thinking about exercising. I always have more things I WANT to do that keep me from doing the things I NEED to do.

Michelle, I know what you mean. It can be a big challenge to get up out of bed in the morning, especially for those of us with late nights. That being said, doing so can really give us the boost we need to be the best versions of ourselves during the day.

When I am stressed and tired it is difficult to get up early and go to the gym. I make myself go and I always feel better and more alert to face my day.
