YOUR Time

Find time for yourself to do what you want to do, where you want to do it. Walks on the beach work best for me.

I would often go play soccer for an hour...Not only is it fun, but I could play with my kids and also when I kicked the ball, I would visualize something or someone's face on the ball, and, wow, many fast and hard goals would be scored. I would leave the field happy, calm and refreshed... hand in hand with my daughter.

Hi Mr. Como,

I agree that everyone needs to find a certain amount of time to do what they would like and what refreshes them as an individual. Without this personal time, mistakes will start happening and eventually over the long run, burnout and disease may occur. I usually tell my students that if they think that they don't have time to exercise or do something nice for themselves, then they should try taking time for themselves in baby steps. This may mean doing something for themselves for only 5 minutes a day on a regular basis. Once that occurs, they may realize that they can then take 10 minutes, and then 15 minutes, etc. Most of my students have reported when they tried this that it worked for them, and they felt much better afterwards.

Harriet, Yes music can completely change our mood. The right music for you is a very personal choice. It sounds like you've found some great artists that work well for you. Don't be afraid to take great artists and songs with you outside of the car. You can bring them to work on a handheld device and use them when you are not interacting with fellow faculty, administrators and students too.

I often hear "after leaving work I do not have time to exercise because I have to prepare supper and school work for my family" I find my drive home with nice music helps elevate some of my stress.
